NX Speculation

NX Specuation / Wishful thinking!

The WiiU is only a few years old and yet people are already getting excited about Nintendo's next venture into the home console market... Hoping to turn around their fortunes with a new integrated system, one that replaces neither the WiiU or the 3DS... But what does that mean exactly? Well, no one knows, apart from the big wigs at Nintendo HQ! The DS was meant to be a "Third Pillar" and not a replacement to the Gameboy line-up... We all know how that turned out!

So before everyone jumps on the Nintendo Hype Train, lets take a look at some of my crazy ideas!

1:

The system will still have two screens.

I think this is a given really, although the WiiU has yet to see many games that really take advantage of it, Nintendo would be silly to drop the second screen all together, its proved very popular on their DS systems for over 10 years now and people at least love the Off-TV play feature of the WiiU, also getting rid of the extra screen would really impact the ability to have backwards compatibility, something Nintendo is quite good at keeping up in their recent hardware.

2:

Half console / Half handheld?

This was one of the earliest rumours flying around when the NX was first announced, the thought of Nintendo combining their console and handheld business is an exciting one, at least from a games point of view, no more waiting for a console release because there was a new 3DS game coming out, now they will be able to focus all their efforts on one system. It might not be great for overall sales of the system, considering at the moment Nintendo has the 3DS, 2DS, 3DSXL, NEW 3DS, New 3DSXL, Wii Mini and WiiU all on sale at the moment, to get rid of all those and replace it with just one system might hurt their console business quite a lot!

3:

Maximum amiibo support!

This probably goes without saying but I expect there to be a big integration with Amiibos, especially considering how immensely popular they are at the moment, I think every Nintendo game for the system will have support in some form.

Getting into wishful thinking territory now...

Virtual Reality? Nintendo dabbled in this technology many years ago with the ill-fated Virtual Boy, With the success of 3D in the 3DS and the upcoming Oculus rift and several other VR devices, the time seems right to re-introduce the world to VR! And who better to start a new trend than Nintendo, just like they did back in 2006 with motion controls! It brings to mind that very old fake console, the Nintendo ON. Anyone remember that?

5:

Gamecube Compatibility!

Everyone loves te gamecube so why not add some gamecube controller ports so people can play with the controller, make it function just like a pro controller and be compatible with all pro controller games, and upscale gamecube games to HD, would be amazing but im sure the best we'll get of GC support is the inevitable GC re-releases on virtual console... Also on the topic of compatibility.. a DS / 3DS slot would be nice, and a GB / GBA slot would be even nicer! Don't see that happening though...

6:

Something to do with smart phones?

Nintendo has recently teamed up with smartphone game maker DeNA to produce a number of games for iOS and Android, it would make sense if somehow these games were also playable on their new system... Maybe thats what this new rumour about it being Android based is, not an actual android based console, but some kind of Android functionality which lets you play your Nintendo Phone games on the new console? Who knows!?

I'll leave it there for now, What are your thoughts and oppinions of the NX? Lease a comment, I'd love to discuss!

Thanks for reading.
