Today I buckled down and studied for a few hours. I've signed up for a language learning site called MLC Japanese Language School. They send an email once a week with a few sheets to revise with some Kanji and sample sentences (in Japanese) for you to revise and copy. I went through the first few Kanji on that sheet today.
This site is great for learning because it jives you just enough to focus on in one go. It's how I learned Hiragana and Katakana as well so definitely worth visiting their site and signing up for the emails!
This is the one I'm using at the moment:
I'm trying to remember the most used readings for the Kanij as well. I'm finding it easier to learn them when I can see them in context with other hiragana and kanji. For example, I now know that
人 - on its own is pronounced - ひと
カナダ人 - at the end of a country it's pronounced - じん
三人 - as a counter it's pronounced - にん
The test papers also have some example sentences, in Hiragana and Kanji (with new Kanji having Furigana above so you know which reading to use. I don't know some of the vocab in these sentences so when I find a bit I don't understand I'm going to http://jisho.org/ and looking up the meanings of the words there.
On that site I'm then looking up some compound words made up of the Kanji I am studying. For example, a compound of 一 (いち)is 一時 (いちじ)meaning Time / O'clock. Then I'm looking at the compound Kanji (the 時 in this case) and seeing what readings and meanings that has. I won't look at that too long as I'll end up reviewing it later on anyway, but it just gives a bit better idea of what the compound is made up of.
Feel like it's going well today, I'll try to do about 3 or 4 Kanji a day and see how that goes as well as continuing to revise the sentences I've already learned from reading / my lessons on Ankii as well. I'll eventually update my Ankii deck with some more cards maybe using the example sentences from these papers too.
Long post today! Feeling quite motivated today! :D
